Disney Online today announced that their MMO Pirates of the Caribbean Online has launched for the PC and Mac platforms. Allowing thousands of players to fully experience the adventures based upon the films and explore beyond these boundaries in a quest to become the most legendary pirate on the high seas, PoCO is now ripe for the plundering.

"The launch of Pirates of the Caribbean Online opens up an entirely new world of pirate adventures to thousands of fans who can now play alongside their favorite characters in a fully-immersive environment that builds on and goes beyond the epic stories created in the films," said Paul Yanover, Executive Vice President and Managing Director, Disney Online. "We believe the game's focus on action and adventure, combined with many customization options will appeal to a broad audience of both gamers and fans of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise as they set out on their own course to live the legend."

In Pirates of the Caribbean Online, players create and customize their own pirate, captain their own ship, and assemble a crew of their fellow rogues in an effort to become the Caribbean's most legendary Pirate. Along the way, players will interact with characters made popular by the films, like Jack Sparrow, Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann, and will also encounter a host of new characters and enemies unique to the game. To become the most notorious pirate, players must forge alliances, hunt for buried treasure, battle evil undead forces, and use cunning and strategy to outwit their foes.

Game features include:

• Create your own Pirate character - Players choose from over a million combinations to fully customize their own Pirate (body type, face, hair, clothing, names, etc.).
• Set sail on your own Pirate ship - Captain your own ship then recruit a crew of fellow players to set sail for the adventure of a lifetime.
• Quest for adventure and treasure - Embark on ship and land-based missions to locate buried treasure. Explore lush jungles, volcanic caves, and vast tropical islands but beware of traps, ambushes, and double-crosses which are an every day occurrence when keeping company with Pirates.

So says the villainous Captain Barbossa during the climactic duel from Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. In a vast cavern filled with cursed Aztec gold, weaving through shafts of moonlight, Barbossa's deadly skeletal form is revealed each time he steps into a shaft of the silvery light. In the moonlight, Barbossa and his cutthroat crew are revealed to be skeletons, trapped in limbo. Captain Barbossa, his sword fearfully drawn into the light, is shown half in our world, half in the afterworld - his skeletal arm exposing the dreaded Curse of the Black Pearl - in combat with swashbuckling swordsman Captain Jack Sparrow.

The pirates will loot and carouse as they attempt to recruit island guests into their brotherhood of freedom and greed at Pirate's Lair on Tom Sawyer Island.

"The phenomenal popularity of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise has allowed our Imagineers and cast members to bring the classic Tom Sawyer Island pirate experience alive in new, entertaining and fun ways like only Disney can do," said Ed Grier, President of Disneyland Resort. "Through Disney's signature brand of storytelling, guests will be immersed in a pirate experience like no other and find new ways to explore an island that's been taken over by some of the most popular characters from the Pirates franchise, including Captain Jack Sparrow himself."

Pirate's Lair on Tom Sawyer Island makes its debut day and date with the release of Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, the third film in the popular Disney movie franchise. Building upon the hands-on play and exploration that have made the island a Disneyland favorite for children and adults alike since it opened more than 50 years ago, Pirate's Lair takes its inspiration from Tom and Huck's pirate games chronicled in Mark Twain's The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, as well as from Disneyland's famed Pirates of the Caribbean attraction and the blockbuster motion picture series.

The Pirate's Lair experience embarks when aspiring pirates traverse the Rivers of America in Frontierland on rafts -- with island maps in hand -- and head ashore at Pirate Point where they are greeted by Captain Jack Sparrow's warning of his presence on the isle.

Guests will soon discover that Captain Jack has joined his fellow adventurers from the Pirates of the Caribbean movies in a plan to overtake Tom Sawyer Island. William Turner has set up his blacksmith shop on Pirate Point and Elizabeth Swann has landed, as evidenced by her framed portrait, signed love letters and diary.

Quarrelsome pirates Pintel and Ragetti also have staked their claim. Appearing as special effects in the form of a pop-up head and a spooky skeletal arm, the pair attempts to frighten off would-be treasure-snatchers and other plunderers.

Cavern explorers in Dead Man's Grotto will encounter ghostly apparitions, buried treasure and mysterious voices, as well as discover an ornate chest that holds the heart of the villainous Davy Jones. Brave souls seeking to claim the cherished chest will be shocked to feel the thump of his beating heart and hear the strains of his ghostly voice.

In a watery inlet alongside a ramshackle barrel bridge in Smuggler's Cove, treasure seekers might spot a sunken ship. A closer look discovers a chest that can only be revealed by operating a hoist to lift it from its underwater nest.

Unwitting guests roaming the island may stumble upon a rather intimidating suspended bone cage, similar to the one depicted in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest. However, this seemingly unfortunate situation could lend itself as the perfect opportunity to pose for photos as trapped prisoners of the cannibal tribe that menaced Captain Jack.

Down another path, guests may meet up with roving pirates seeking new recruits to take the Pirate Oath, as well as The Bootstrappers, a fun-loving band of rogues who are always looking high and low for sing-a-long participants.

Guests also should keep a keen lookout for pirates at other island landmarks like Tom & Huck's Treehouse and Castle Rock, where -- as legend has it -- marauders have stashed their hoard of loot.

Captain Jack and several sly, cunning pirates take to the swords in "Jack Sparrow's Swashbuckling Adventure," an interactive and high-energy live performance. During the show, Captain Jack tricks a fellow pirate into helping him retrieve a map from the Casque of the Unknown that leads to the ultimate buried treasure. A brawl ensues and the pirates engage in swordplay, acrobatics and a cannon battle in their quest for the revered map. The performance runs several times daily on the island.

The crafty Captain Jack Sparrow, his ruthless and cunning nemesis Barbossa, and Davy Jones, the legendary ruler of the ocean depths, continue to entertain Disney park guests as part of the "wildest crew to ever sack the Spanish Main" in the classic Pirates of the Caribbean attraction at Disneyland and Walt Disney World.

Tom Sawyer Island opened in June 1956. It claims the distinction of being the only attraction personally designed by Walt Disney.

Walt Disney Pictures' epic adventure "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End," from Jerry Bruckheimer Films, landed in the global box office record books and laid claim to the biggest opening in industry history, with an unprecedented gross of $401,000,000 in its first six days of release, it was announced today by Mark Zoradi, president of Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Marketing and Distribution. This figure surpasses the previous record of $382 million set by the six day opening of "Spiderman 3" earlier this year. "Pirates" continues to please audiences around the world with exceptionally strong exit polls.

Domestically, "Pirates of the Caribbean : At World's End" raised its weekend estimate to $156 million (including Thursday night showings). The film set a new record for the four-day Memorial Day Weekend with its gross of $142 million (including Monday estimates), the film surpassed the previous high of $122.9 million set by "X-Men: The Last Stand" in 2006.

At the international box office, Disney's latest "Pirates" adventure shattered records from Russia to Japan with its phenomenal $245 million cume through Monday (including Monday estimates). The film had record-breaking openings (figures are through Sunday) in their respective markets in the following countries: Korea ($18.4 million), Japan ($15.9 million; US Productions only), Russia ($13.7 million), Spain ($11.6 million), Taiwan ($4.5 million) and Netherlands ($2.8 million). It also set new Walt Disney Studio records in the U.K. ($26.6 million), France ($17.7 million), Germany ($16.8 million) and Australia ($9.9 million). With its six-day tally of $245 million, "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End" has set a new international record that surpasses the previous six-day high of $232 million set by "Spiderman 3" a few weeks ago. "Pirates" still has a few markets yet to open including China and India.

Commenting on the announcement, Zoradi said, "We knew that audiences all over the world were excited to see John ny Depp and the rest of the fantastic 'Pirates' cast in this latest adventure, but this record-setting response at the global box office has been nothing short of incredible. 'Pirates of the Caribbean : At World's End' now has the distinction of having the biggest opening in movie history, and we're extremely proud of that achievement. Credit goes to the multitude of talent both in front of and behind the camera. Jerry Bruckheimer, Gore Verbinski and their exceptional teams as well as the creative minds of writers Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio have proven to be the perfect recipe for success."

"Pirates" which rolled out on over 29,000 screens worldwide, showed on a record number of digital screens both domestically (1,064) and internationally (414) bringing the global total to 1,478. The film has already become the Studio's 54th release to join the $100 million club internationally and the 53rd film to reach the $100 million plateau domestically -- unprecedented in the industry.

The massively anticipated release of Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End on May 25, 2007 will see the release of multiple new titles -- with close to 2 million books already confirmed to ship to retailers in the U.S.

Disney Book Group will release a broad publishing program based on Pirates of the Caribbean and the At World's End movie. Included in this massive campaign are books for readers of all ages, including Disney Press's At World's End Junior Novel, which is already a New York Times best seller; the Saving Jack Sparrow and Force of Will 8x8 storybooks for readers ages 4-6; Singapore! and The Mystic's Journey early readers for kids ages 5-7; At World's End: The Movie Storybook for readers ages 10 and up; and gift books from Disney Editions including: Pirates of the Caribbean: From the Magic Kingdom to the Movies; The Art of Pirates of the Caribbean; Bring Me That Horizon: The Making of Pirates of the Caribbean; and The Pirates Guidelines.
